carolyn-chapman:

On the ride to the studio, Carolyn’s mind began to form questions. What if she wasn’t good enough? What if she makes a fool out of herself and Jeanne for even suggesting her in the first place? Her stomach made twists and turns; the way it always did when Carolyn was to sing in front of people. But once they had arrived to the studio, she knew that the scared and depressed Carolyn had to be put away. If she was ever serious about becoming a singer, she had to put her problems aside and focus on one thing: the music.

The girls had entered the room and there was an explosion of hellos. Carolyn blushed a dark red hearing one of her favorite bands whistle at her, calling her beautiful and winking at her too. Sure, they were just playing around and making her feel welcome but this feeling was alien to the broken girl. “Nice to meet you all.” She giggled silently. After being given the lyric sheet, Carolyn read it and noticed how relevant the song was to her current life. But that only made her start to shake. Even with her hands shaking, she held her head high and walked in the recording booth with confidence – somewhat. “As I’ll ever be…”

Don’t cry. Don’t fucking cry. Carolyn thought herself countless of times as she put her pair of headphones on and listened to the band’s already recorded part. It sounded even better than being read. The music and lyrics were flowing though her ears and suddenly Carolyn’s part in the chorus started; then after her solo part. Carolyn sang to her heart desires. Singing very note perfectly and on cue. It was the only thing she focused on, the lyrics and the music. Just like she told herself to do.

Once her part was done and finished, she turned to the glass that separated her, the producer, the band and Jeanne. They had shocked looks on their faces, other than Jeanne; who looked like she was going to yell in happiness any minute. The music was already cut off but the mic was still on. “Was that bad?” Carolyn asked.

Jeanne could not contain her excitement, she grinned cheekily and clapped. The boys were still stunned. “Pick your mouth off the floor.” She stated with a hand on her hip. “I told ya.” Ryan whispered something to his band mates and looked back over at Jeanne. “We’re going to have a band meeting. We’ll be right out.” The boys disappeared off in to the next room and Jeanne watched Carolyn place the headphones back on the stool and walk out joining Jeanne. “You did a flawless job. I don’t even know how to describe it.” She said honestly pulling her friend into a hug. “You better thank me when you win a Grammy.” She teased playfully laying her head back on the seat. “Hey, Tom. Can you replay what she just sang over again?” Jeanne asked; she wasn’t sure if Carolyn was able to hear herself so she decided to have the producer play it over. The song started again and Jeanne swayed to the beat of the song. She began to sing a long with Carolyn’s part. “And I don’t know what I’m waiting fooooor.” Jeanne giggled and patted Caroyn’s shoulder. “Good job, kid.”

The boy walked in again and faced Carolyn. “You have an amazing voice, Carolyn.” Ryan admitted. “And we’d be honored if you’d sing the duet with us.” The boys nodded in agreement with pleading faces. Jeanne nudged Carolyn pushing her softly forward. Things were happening fast and Jeanne knew what this would do to Carolyn’s career. She was just blessed to be able to be there and witness it. Her voice was a gift just waiting to be shared with the world.

Carolyn could feel her chest tighten. Pictures of her in a bathing suit with Jeanne. What if her scars showed? At least Carolyn hoped that the media didn’t get good shots on them. She had changed into another band shirt with black jeans, Jeffrey Campbell shoes and a leather jacket. It was the only thing she felt comfortable in. “Ready as I’ll ever be.” She stated.

Jeanne’s personal driver drove them to the recording studio that was a block away from their hotel. Once they got inside, Jeanne led Carolyn through; she had known the place backwards since she had spent many early mornings and late nights recording her multi platinum album. She checked her phone one more time for the room number and smiled. “Here we are.” She whispered turning the knob of the door and entering. The boys looked up and turned to face the girls. “Hey, Jeanne!” They exclaimed getting up one by one to hug the girl. “Hey, this is my best friend Carolyn.” She introduced, whilst hearing one of the boys whistle and holler upon seeing her friend. “Hello, beautiful.” Nash said to Carolyn, kissing her hand softly. “I’m Nash.” Jeanne could only laugh as he gave her a wink. “C’mon focus guys. She’ll be here for awhile. Now the song you’re going to sing what’s it called?” She asked taking a seat in the leather couch. “It’s called Why Don’t You Love Me.” Ryan answered handing Jeanne and Carolyn the lyric sheet.

Jeanne read over it and smiled it was the perfect song for Carolyn. “So, princess you ready to show us what you got?” He asked facing Carolyn now. Jeanne smiled encouragingly as she watched her friend go in the recording booth. She could see her hand shaking holding the lyric sheet so she stood up and mouthed, ‘You got this’ giving her big thumbs up. The producer put his headphones on and cued Carolyn. “Go, ahead.” Jeanne didn’t know she was holding her breath until she let it out. She was nervous for Carolyn and hoped that it wasn’t as bad for her friend.

Sweets and other stuff // J + S.

Jeanne hadn’t baked for what seemed like ages. She mostly did it with her mother when she had been alive and since her death, it never felt right like some how it was wrong for her to do it with anyone else. Years have passed and things changed, Jeanne no longer felt like it was wrong, her mother wouldn’t want her to be restricted to do such things and she knew that all along. After talking to Sunny about baking they agreed to making brownies and cookies to pass out. This sudden nice urge was unexpected from Jeanne but in honor of her mother why not? Sunny was the perfect person to start baking again with. She had heard about Sunny’s progress with eating again and was truly proud. It seemed like they would both gain something from this experience. Shaking off her inner thoughts, Jeanne slipped on an over size tee that hanged off her shoulder and some jeans before heading out the door to the kitchen. While waiting for Sunny she looked through the cabinets for eggs, brownie batter and a whisk. She leaned down to pick the things up and place them on the counter. Looking up she spotted Sunny and smiled. “Hey, Sunny!” She chirped happily.
